Museum Development Services
MLA South East has established a network of Museum Development Services for non-Hub museums in each of the South East’s four sub-regions:
- Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire
- Hampshire and the Isle of Wight
- Surrey, East and West Sussex
- Kent and Medway
Museum Development Officers (MDOs), based in each of the sub-regions, deliver the service to
all Registered / Accredited museums and those working towards Accreditation in the South East.
The South East Hub supports the Museum Development Services and is committed to continuing
this support in the future. The current funding from the South East Hub supports the MDOs in
providing a wide range of services, including:
- Providing free advice and a training programme
- Sharing information through newsletters, networks and meetings
- Running a grants programme
See MLA South East for MDO contact details and more information about the services on offer in your area.
Pocket Guide to Advice and Support

It covers Learning, Access and inclusion, Collections care, Accreditation, Funding and income generation, Strategic marketing, ICT and workforce, alongside some of the national and regional issues facing museums today.
