Design and Technology
You may be able to incorporate Design and Technology with another curriculum subject during a
visit.
At Key Stages 1 and 2
- Unit 1D Houses, if you have a local museum in an historic house, or if the museum has a collection of houses or has artefacts relating to houses and homes.
- Unit 2A Vehicles, for a museum with a transport collection.
- Unit 4E Lighting it up might be linked to a Science unit on Electricity and look at different kinds of lighting in the past.
- Unit 6B Slippers might link to a textile collection of different types of footwear.
At Key Stage 3
- Unit 07aii Understanding materials: resistant materials and aiii. Textiles have relevance to many collections.
- Unit 07bii Designing and making for yourself Focus: resistant materials and biii Focus: Textiles also may be relevant.
If you teach KS4 it might be worth consulting with your local museum about your particular requirements.
