Looking Forward 2008-10
Following guidance from MLA, Renaissance South East has developed a plan for 2008/09 to consolidate the existing activities and lay the foundation for further investment. The plan used the consultation that was carried out in the summer of 2007 to focus resources on those Museum Development Services and Sharing Skills programmes that were judged as most useful. This plan has been assessed and agreed by MLA.
Changes to the MLA Partnership
Following the outcome of the government's Comprehensive Spending Review, plans have been agreed to streamline the MLA's national and regional operations in a major reorganisation intended to lower the MLA Partnership's cost structure and to channel more funding into front-line cultural services. The MLA Council decided at a meeting on 19th February 2008 to scale back funding to the nine separate regional MLA agencies and to work with them towards a unified MLA structure. The changes pave the way for the outcome of the current regional review chaired by Culture Minister Margaret Hodge.

What this means in the South East
In light of the changes to the MLA Partnership there will be changes in how Renaissance is delivered and structured. MLA South East and the South East Hub have been working hard of recent months to ensure a smooth transition of the Museum Development Service, which will be managed by the Hub from November 2008. The national review of Renaissance is still ongoing and it is not yet clear how this might affect funding and delivery for the programme in the South East from 2009 onwards.
