Surrey, East and West Sussex

The Museum Development Service for Surrey, East and West Sussex (SEWS) is staffed by Chris Drake and Helen Derbyshire.

The team share the responsibility for delivering to the sub-region's museums those services that form part of the wider Renaissance Museum Development Fund objectives. The services include:

  • Advice and support on Accreditation, professional issues concerned with standards, general fundraising and providing the link for museums to access the South East Skills Bank Directories on Preventive Conservation and Strategic Marketing

  • The Small Grants Programme, a funding stream that offers Accredited and Registered Museums access to grants of up to £3,000 for project work in one or more of five priority areas. See Museum Development Grants for more information.

  • Learning, access audits and access grants.

Networks

Helen and Chris support a number of networks across the sub-region

  • West Sussex Museums Council (WSMC) - the county lead body on museum issues. Membership is open to any organisation that has collections that are open to the public. The Executive Committee comprises elected and officer representation from most of the county's local authorities, together with local authority and independent museum professionals and museum workers from the voluntary museums sector.   • The Surrey, East and West Sussex  Museum Development Service is a member of the Sussex Museums Group and the Surrey Museums Group
  • Sussex Learn-On Forum - a specialist access and learning forum for museum edcuators, teachers, library and archive staff, Arts, Youth and Social Services and other staff with a broad interest  in education and access issues.
