MLA South East

MLA South East is the regional development agency for museum, library and archive activity in the region.

MLA South East works to improve the quality of museum, library and archive provision in the South East in order to maximise the sectors' contribution to the region's distinctive cultural, social, educational and economic life and identity.   

Museums

MLA South East represents the interests of the Registered / Accredited museums in the region.

MLA South East is a key partner in Renaissance, and receives a 60% of its funding from MLA under this programme.

MLA South East is contributing to the Renaissance vision through:

  • working with the South East Hub to provide the regional and strategic context to develop future activity, in line with the Museum Development Strategy for the South East - Making the Connection
  • facilitating communications between the Hub and non Hub museums
  • enabling strategic development activity, the sharing of expertise and maximising the benefits to current and potential users
  • managing the Museum Development Fund for non Hub museums
  • supporting the sub-regional networks through the Museum Development Services 
  • assisting and supporting the development of the Hub learning programmes through its Access and Learning and Marketing and Reserach Teams
  • playing an active role in ‘Image and Identity’ - the National/Regional Partnership between the Victoria and Albert Museum and five regional museums including Brighton Museum and Art Gallery
  • working with the Hub to maintain a database of schools in the south east that will be used to record and monitor schools’ use of museums services across the region.
