Preparing School Staff and Pupils

previous   next

In order to prepare for a school visit to a museum teachers will need:

  • background information about the site they are to visit
  • background information about the topic they are using the visit to support
  • to prepare accompanying staff and helpers so that they have:
    • a clear understanding of their role
    • copies of background information
    • activity summaries
    • plans of the site
  • to prepare their pupils for the visit.

To facilitate preparation for teachers museums can supply:

  • background information about their site and the topic for the visit
  • a map or plan of the site
  • a summary of activities for the day
  • pointers for preparation of staff and pupils.

These are all items which could be covered in your pre-visit planning with teachers.

Look at the examples and websites below for more information.

English Heritage provide comprehensive background information for their sites, which would be well worth emulating.
