Learning

previous   next

"Learning is a process of active engagement with experience, It is what people do when they want to make sense of the world."
MLA definition adapted from the Campaign for Learning

Why we use the word learning, rather than education in museums:
The word Education tends to be used in connection with a more formal setting, such as a school or University whereas the term Learning embraces a range of activities and resources, both formal and informal, and for people of all ages.

The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) has produced a website called Inspiring Learning for All which:

  • is based on the belief that every experience in a museum has the potential to encourage learning
  • describes what an accessible and inclusive museum which stimulates and supports learning looks like
