How to Evaluate

previous   next

The National Trust, Friendly Evaluation Toolkit will:

  • help you to understand the different types of evaluation
  • encourage you to think about what you are trying to evaluate and how
  • give some real, practical, useful examples of evaluation techniques that other people have used, and that you can modify for yourself

Important points to remember about evaluation.

  • Keep it simple.
  • Be realistic.
  • Start small.
  • There is no "big secret".
  • One size does not fit all.
  • It is not an exact science.
  • There is no such thing as free evaluation. You will need to plan in some of your time (however limited).
  • Share the evaluation with a colleague so you have someone with whom to plan and discuss your findings.
  • Not all comments will be positive (management must realise this).
